Finbar McBride (Peter Dinklage) has a singular passion in life: trains. He is a man with dwarfism and no friends to speak of, save for Henry Styles, for whom he works in a model train store, and other train buffs. When Henry dies, Finbar finds he has been left a decrepit, old train depot in rural New Jersey. With few other prospects, he moves to the train station, where he meets several of the locals including Joe Oramas (Bobby Canavale), a talkative young Cuban tending a hot-dog concession trailer for his ailing father, and Olivia Harris (Patricia Clarkson), a divorced painter mourning her dead son. These people from diverse backgrounds become unlikely friends.
