In this tragic story a clerical error sets in motion a series of events that have tragic results for all involved. Abandoned by her husband, suffering from depression, and wrongly evicted from her home Kathy (Jennifer Connelly) is angry, bitter, and lost. All she wants is to regain her house which has now been bought at auction by retired Iranian General Behrani and his wife(Ben Kingsley and Shohreh Aghdashloo) in an effort to give their family the American Dream. A Deputy Sheriff (Ron Eldard) with his own set of personal problems tries to come to Kathy's aid and emotions and events soon spiral out of control.
