Lars And The Real Girl
Ryan Gosling
Patricia Clarkson
Lars (Ryan Gosling) is a strange young man, a recluse who keeps to himself in the garage where he lives. He only leaves when his brother Gus (Paul Schneider) and Gus’ wife Karin (Emily Mortimer) drag him over to their house for dinner. No one ever really talks to Lars about why he keeps himself so isolated. On night, he announces he has a girlfriend, Bianca. Bianca is an anatomically correct doll he bought on the internet. His family, realizing he must be slightly mentally imbalanced, tries to help him without pushing him over the edge. He sees a psychologist (Patricia Clarkson) who suggests that it is possibly only a stage he is going through. Margo (Kelli Garner) is a real girl, who hopes that Lars will one day open his eyes and be with her.

The other is the church's wacky and eccentric minister, Reverend Frank (Robin Williams), who demands that the couple complete his grueling "foolproof" marriage preparatory course as a pre-requisite for marrying them. Consisting of silly classes, insane homework assignments, and Rev. Frank's invasion of their privacy, his course puts Sadie and Ben's love of each other to the test showing if it is puppy love or truly a match which will survive long-term.

The Last Of The Mohicans
Daniel Day-Lewis
Jodhi May
Based on the book by the same name, "The Last of the Mohicans" (1992), chronicles the downfall and death of a Native American tribe and their trials and tribulations through the French and Indian War. Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis), a white man adopted into the tribe, is one of only three remaining men of the Mohican clan. Torn between the French and the British, the Mohicans want to side with neither and know they are bound to misery either way. While the Europeans duke it out on the battlefield, the only sure thing is that the Native American tribes will lose out. The Mohicans downfall, suffering, and subordinance to the growing European presence in North America is the key element of the film.

Pu Yi (John Lone) is the final ruler of a dynasty that ruled China. He was only three when he was proclaimed ruler and was raised in isolation inside the Forbidden City. But as he matures, he chooses to leave the ruling of the country and explore a decadent lifestyle with all the wealth he possesses. Not understanding the dangers of the world with the protection of his position as ruler, makes Yi vulnerable. Not understanding the political landscape, he make friends with the Japanese. This affords him his freedom but leads to the demise of his country and his own affluence. His deterioration into a common man struggling to subsist parallels the Japanese takeover of China, occupying it for many years in the twentieth century.

During the last few days of his life on death row Gale is interviewed by tough crusading reporter Bitsey Bloom (Kate Winslet). He tells her the story of his life in the form of flashbacks, detailing the good and the bad, including his divorce and his descent to minimum wage jobs and alcoholism. The more she learns of his life, the more Bitsey comes to believe that Gale is in fact not guilty, just as he has claimed. Instead, he may be the victim of a secret right-wing conspiracy. She must uncover the facts before the hour arrives for Gale’s lethal injection.

Little Miss Sunshine
Abigail Breslin
Greg Kinnear
Little Miss Sunshine is a character driven film about a rather dysfunctional family. The characters and their oddities are listed below: Grandpa (was kicked out of a nursing home and enjoys snorting heroin), Dad (a motivational speaker wannabe), Mom (fairly balanced, but secretly smokes cigarrettes), Son (He is a nihlist and has taken a vow of silence until he makes it into the air force academy), Daughter (an adoreable little girl who only wants to win a state beauty pageant) and Mom's Brother (Tried commiting suicide and failed). The movie centers on this group of peoples' trip across the nation in an old VW bus. They are going to California so the little girl can compete in the Little Miss Sunshine pageant. Needless to say, this odd group of characters has some funny and rather interesting adventures on the road. Sadly, they lose one of the family members along the way, but grow closer to each other in the end.

Love In The Time Of Cholera
Javier Bardem

The movie “Love in the Time of Cholera” begins with the death of old Dr. Urbino (Benjamin Bratt). His wife Fermina (Giovanna Mezzogiorno) finds Florentino (Javier Bardem) in her living room on returning home from the funeral, who tells her that he’s been waiting for her for years. She tells him to buzz off. Then there’s a flash back to 1879 in Columbia, when young Florentino first spies Fermina and immediately declares his allegiance to Fermina. But Fermina's father (John Leguizamo), who chews a mean cigar, refuses this courtship as he feels that Florentino, a lowly telegraph clerk, doesn’t deserve Fermina, a gorgeous rich woman, the daughter of Senor Daza. So, they’re pulled apart. Years later, Fermina falls under the spell of Dr. Urbino when he comes to examine her for the symptoms of cholera and marries him. Florentino, meanwhile, becomes a wealthy industrialist. He has 622 affairs by which he tries to keep Fermina far from his mind. This goes on right into old age, when Florentino, in his seventies, is shown in bed with a naked 20-ish bombshell who turns to him and says, “Let’s do it again. Please.” However, Florentino heroically manages not to pass out.
